Curiously, my Mac Pro, the little grey cylinder version, recently started acting up. Both video and audio get choppy. Only fix is to reboot. I did find two bits of software that have helped. "Macs Fan Control" monitors internal temperatures and adjusts the fan speed. "DriveDX" monitors drive temperatures and spits out a report of drive condition. I still get the problem but instead of having to reboot daily it's now every three days or so. I did a partial strip down and cleaning of the computer two weeks ago, clearing out a lot of dust. Next weekend I'll do a more thorough strip down and cleaning.
I suspect that unless the computer is kept in one of those "clean rooms" they make computer chips in, you're going to get dust inside, and that dust is going to prevent adequate cooling of the system.
