Yes ! Balaclavas are my favorite winter headwear. I have thin ones, thick vintage Patagonia Powerstretch ones and this wondrous super thick Wind Pro X-Treme Hood from Serius that I wear out walking when it's near zero outside or I want some instant heat indoors on a cold day. Encircling the whole head sans face rather than just a hat does wonders. Even the a thin balaclava worn under any cap works .
