I also have felt like my Rivendell bike purchases are all but over, practically
speaking. I own a Canti-Romulus, a Quickbeam, and an Atlantis. I'd love to
own a Roadeo, but I already have the Canti-Rom. A Hilborne would be nice, but
I already own an Atlantis. I'd die for a Bombadil, but I already own an
Atlantis (and if I did buy a Bombadil, Mrs. Shine would no doubt see to it that
I would see my demise!) Those three frames, in conjunction with my extra wheel
sets and three chests full of various parts, gear, and components, means I'm
pretty well covered, bike wise. In a sense, Riv's great designs have put an
end to me buying more of 'em, although I'd sure like to. It's the opposite of
built-in obsolescence. They are so versatile and so well built, that I'll be
laying up at Holy Cross before any of them will ever wear out. And I ride a
lot.
I do buy lots of Pine Tar soap, however.

Subject: [RBW] Feeling Abondoned

I am very glad that I have my bikes because the new Riv's with limited sizes
and sloping top tubes are not as close to my vision of what a bike should be.
Hopefully they will maintain a few frames like the Hilson for those of us who
appreciate a more classic shaped frame. If the economy improves maybe I will
buy a Hilson or a Roadeo because I would really like to ride Brevets on a 32mm
tire. I also hope that they do not completely forget those of us who
supported them in the early years.
