I will not get into the aesthetic (actually i like the wood...) my concern 
is on the mounting, i think a rack would be more secure, never a big fan of 
the stem plates, but think they would work better with a wire rack.

the other thing he may not be thinking about is that the wooden box will be 
heavy, so without anything in it he's adding a few lbs of wood that he'll 
have to lug around!
