I apply the same attitude to bike carrying/locking as I did tony early days as a music journalist. I would get asked how I got certain interviews and exclusives - my response was that I just walked back, past security and whomever else like I was supposed to be there. Uncertainty had no place. It helped that I was "of the culture" and fit in. This served me for a long while.
I still do it today with my dog and shops.
