Well I am going back quite a ways but when I lived in the same area (44th Walnut/ 48th Springfield) and my stuff got stolen (cameras/ musical equipment/bikes/tools etc.) I would go to the pawn shops in the retail area about 52nd & Pine. I had pretty good luck getting stuff back. There was also one notorious pawn shop at 13th and Bainbridge (IIRC) that was a known location for selling stolen goods. The police were not much help unfortunately (many other larger things to tend to) so I would either show pictures of myself with the item or police report and pay a "nominal fee" to get my stuff back.
