I live car-lite in an inner ring suburb, so I have convenient access to
shopping centers (super market, Target) and a down town. Many of my
destinations are within two or three miles, so the miles don't really add
up, it's more the number of trips that I can take by bike. On a typical day
I'll make at least two bike trips if not three or four. Automobiles are
less efficient and pollute more when the engine is cold, so there's more to
gain by reducing the number of short trips. I still drive, but I try to
limit my driving to longer trips or to destinations which are not bike
friendly.
