I agree with patrick. An Austin based frame-maker using a Texas-
founding-father to name a frame can hardly be called an imitation--
since Sam Hillborne is actually much more of a made-up name. I
actually found the up-slope geometry of the Sam H. very similar to my
G3 Kogswell P/R, which of course came to the market earlier than the
Sam H. Up-slope geometry is so common now, I don't think Riv can claim
any IP on it. Kogswell and Rawland also have tons of tire clearance
and are fender- and racks friendly.

VCC make custom frames, from Austin, whereas Sam H. are production
frames from Taiwan (there is nothing wrong with that). I see them as
different options on the market. Incidentally, the wait on a VCC frame
is only 4 weeks at the moment, and $1200 for a custom lugged frame
made in the USA seems like a good deal.
