I travelled to France in 2007 with my Rambo in a standard bike case and was charged $80 each way. This cost was just figured into the trip and given the total cost of the trip was not a big deal. I think for a one time or once every 5 years trip the cost of coupling is not worth it. If you will travel frequently then the cost of adding the couplers will pay off quicker. Also while not bad looking the couplers are not the prettiest thing either.
I did have a Tandem built by Bilenky and it has 6 couplers on it. This should make airline travel easier and will make it possible to take the tandem on the TGV trains. There may be many people who can install couplers but I was quite pleased with the work done by Bilenky and have seen some of his retrofits. He runs a first rate shop. Larry Powers Get a bicycle.
