Yes!  I'm such a proponent of "Any bike, anywhere" and don't think of that
particular brand of cycling as exclusionary.  As mentioned, many if not all
offerings for off the shelf WSD bikes are go-fast crabon.  That limits
country rides unless the person has a mtn. bike.  And a mtn. bike w/
knobbies and one or two squishy ends wouldn't be all that much fun riding on
the street when everyone else has slicks or close to it (always several
Schwalbe Marathon riders).

I don't in any way think someone has to have a Rivendell and as Doug
mentioned, the majority on these SoCal rides don't.
