Like the others who have posted, I really love my Rambouillet, but I expect
never to be in the market for one again. That is, this one should last as long
as I ride bikes. I expect many of those who lament the passing of the prancing
bovine are similarly not potential customers for the bike. I recall John saying
something on the order of 1300 of the bikes (combined frame sets and complete
bikes) were sold over the years they offered it. There just is no large public
outpouring of demand for the bike.

RBW has evolved as brakes which will accommodate larger tires and fenders have
come on the scene, and as time goes by and what they like in a bike benefits
from added years of experience. The Ram was born when "long" reach Shimanos
allowed a caliper to accept up to 37 mm tires (700 size) which was a sea change
from your basic Trek 25 mm road bike mindset. Then the Silvers came which made
650B very doable and now there is the "widemouth" Tektro offering more options
in tire size, which affects fork and stay spaces, trail, handling, etc.

I used to dream of when I might someday have the pleasure of a Rivendell bike.
These days, I'm blessed to call 3 of them mine. While the Saluki is a fine ride
and the Road is as fast as anything else I've ever been on, by far most of my
miles end up on the Ram. It does everything I want it to well, comfortably and
it still gets approving comments from other riders.

(I don't think I'll ever fully get into the Walnut Creek mindset on everything,
but I have been handing out my microfiber jerseys at club rides. It's wool now.
And sandals. Freewheels. No cleats anywhere...
