One reason for black I discovered after putting some miles on my Adam (which
I've since sold): after some use, the nice khaki color gets as ugly looking
as black thanks to all the dirt -- this on a bike with fenders. The black
hardly shows dirt at all, which is probably why Carradice long ago settled
on black. My Nelsons and such simply faded to a sort of very dark grey green
thanks to sun and dirt. Perhaps a dark olive would be the best color?

Of course, if you choose your bags principally for looks, then I agree that
tan and even tweed look better. The disadvantages of tan did not prevent me
from choosing a Country bag for my gofast. But it will eventually look
nothing like the nice, tan/brown combination it is now.
