Has the quality of Carradice gone downhill in the last decade? I've used any
number of Carradices, saddlebags and panniers, but for various reasons sold
them. My only remaining Carradice is an old Nelson. But all of these had
very decent hardware; in proof of which, my old Nelson is at least 10 and
maybe even 15 years old (I bought it used) and the leather and metal are
fine.

I agree (at least, if Carradice products are still of their old quality)
that they are among the best bargains, or would be if you could buy them
without having to pay 30 pounds shipping. The Riv bags I've used are, of
course, even better, but then they also cost a great deal more (again, not
including shipping).

Carradice hardware is sturdy and fine, unless it has been recently
cheapened.
