No - I said RPMs!

I was giving you the benefit of the doubt. Anyway, as I've already said, *the RPM perl breaks if you add packages with CPAN*.

It's no good to me if I have to install RPMs to make it work. The Redhat 9 packages are kludged and non-standard (the current perl does not include suidperl), and if you update them with CPAN they break.
It is so! I am saying all those perl modules AND SUIDPERL came from RH9 CDs!!!

At the risk of sounding like a broken record:

If you use CPAN to add modules and follow the dependencies, RH9 perl breaks.

Okay -- so, no CPAN, which means I have to wait and then hunt for Redhat rpm updates that are months behind the perl releases.

Not an option.

Let's try and get it working with the current perl.

Fine. Please let us know when you get it working. Also realise these days you need to be a perl expert to install perl correctly from source.

I install perl from source all the time on non-Redhat machines (Gentoo, LFS, Mandrake) and it works every time, so perhaps that makes me a perl expert.

I don't consider myself even a perl novice and I can't write perl, but maybe the standards are low.

You're very helpful, Jason.

No - from what I recall, the RH9 problem people are seeing is due to them
installing a BROKEN, SECURITY HOLE ridden install of maildrop-toaster. See
the archives for that. I don't understand why there is even a
maildrop-toaster. The author of maildrop even provides RPM functionality
which works perfectly - that's all I use. Anyway, OT.

Have a look at the problem Micha Silver is having. He's not using maildrop-toaster.

Oh - sorry 2 people. There are LOTS of people using RH9...

None of them perl experts, *or* security experts, evidently.
