i wasnt even familiar with the 'strings' command... i just started messin with linux maybe a year ago and i've learned a lot but i'm learning it all without any real instruction... most of what i learn is from google and docs and mailing lists... actually wait.. thats all of it.. lol... i'm a newb... but i'll try not to be one of the retarted ones...

when i ran this:
$ /usr/bin/strings /var/qmail/bin/qmail-smtpd |grep QMAILQUEUE

i got nothing returned. zip nada... happy little prompt blinkin at me....

I can't understand how 1.16 can be working if QMAILQUEUE doesn't show up in
the qmail-queue binary...

neither could I, but check the headers on this email, and i know its quarantined a couple dozen sobigs and a klez or two already... it is, i'm sending to you now through that very configuration... but the configure script is saying its not patched... which is precisely what brought me to this mailing list... i'm glad we are at least both puzzled for the same reason... i was using SA too but was geting too many false positives so i shut it down.

so.. heres what i'm thinking...

1.) the qmail install of plesk is patched with other patches as well as the qmailqueue patch screwing up the patch detection? (yeah im talking out my a** here)

2.) the rpm i used to install qmail-scanner replaced the binaries with patched ones... (which doesnt explain why configure doesnt detect it)

3.) i forgot #3... but there was one i swear...

any clues? what should i be checking out here.. another odd thing is that i had no smtp.rules file or tcp server anywhere... qmail appears to be getting called up xinetd with the following commands:

service smtp
{
socket_type = stream
protocol = tcp
wait = no
disable = no
user = root
instances = UNLIMITED
server = /var/qmail/bin/tcp-env
server_args = /usr/sbin/rblsmtpd -r bl.spamcop.net /var/qmail/bin/relaylock /var/qmail/bin/qmail-smtpd /var/qmail/bin
/smtp_auth /var/qmail/bin/true /var/qmail/bin/cmd5checkpw /var/qmail/bin/true
}

also there is a daemon script that starts qmail-start... i'm kinda new to qmail so im wondering why this so complex that it needs both... i'm using courier imapd and pop3d...

everything i've read about qmail and qmail-scanner makes me think this shouldnt work right at all..
but it does... so i'm missin something here... lol

Sean

p.s. i think i need to logout of my server and play some games.. i'm having 'one of those days'... this is the third time im sending this email cause the first time i sent it to the -request address, and the both the first and second time i used the wrong from address... and i admin several mailman lists!! yikes.. i need a vacation. :-/
