We have been running qmail-scanner 1.01 with Sophos sweep and spamc
(spamassassin 1.6) for some time now and all has been well. Lately,
though, we had some problems with QQtemporary errors caused by a sweep exit
code. We upgraded to Qmail-scanner 1.12 because it addressed this issue. We
also upgraded our reformime because it was an older version with bugs and
q-s 1.12 required the update. Shortly thereafter we started having HUGE
perfomance problems. Our load averages which normally ran about 2 were
running 25-50. We made the switch to sophie to try to increase efficiency
and performance. It seemed to work, and now our load averages rarely go
over 2. However, since the switch to sophie, we have had several instances
where SMTP response has been very slow. If you telnet to the mail server at
port 25, it will sometimes take over a minute to respond. Then, it will seem
to fix itself after a few minutes. During the time of slow response, load
averages remain low, and deliveries are also low -- usually about 3-5 local
and 6-10 remote. We have tried running sophie on the command line
(sophie -D) and with daemontools -- both with the same result. This is not
a reverse resolution issue as we call tcpserver with -R -H and -l0. Does
anyone have any ideas as to what might be happening?
