At the time I put together that recipe, I didn't particularly expect puppet to die randomly, but I knew there was a similar practice for cfengine users. And though I wouldn't *expect* any of those other services to die randomly, I'd certainly monitor all of them with Nagios and write puppet manifests to restart them if they're found to be not running. I have had some puppetd's die and get restarted from cron.
