Why do you stress the political orientation of the UK govt at the time? 
After all I'm sure it was a matter of political or economic convenience 
for the UK, I'm sure our republican friends here will find it normal, 
after all they agreed when USA supported all kind of tyrants in the name 
of furthering the interests of the US.
