You didn't state the brand/model laptop.

There are two common SD cards and a variation:

1) The original SD which has been around for several years and the maximum
capacity is 2GB
2) The new SDHC card are High Capacity cards and I believe their maximum
capacity is 32GB
3) The microSD/SDHC card is a very small card that is used mostly in devices
like cell phones and MP3 players
   a) Most microSD/SDHC cards come with a standard size SD/SDHC adapter that
allow you to use the micro's in standard card reader slots
   b) These little cards can be fragile. I've already received on in the
mail and it was snapped in transit. Because of the small size you should
take care in placing them into reader slots

If you just purchased a new laptop it is very likely SDHC compatible and
will be backward compatible with SD cards. Most manufacturer's include the
documentation right on the computer's hard drive. Check for a docs folder
or similar on the hard drive of the laptop. The manufacturer's website
should have the specs posted as well. Check there.

The advantage to SD/SDHC cards is they are small, have a large capacity and
are portable to other devices. I use them for portable digital audio
recording and digital cameras.

Subject: [NF] Anyone know anything about SD cards/card readers?

Heya,

Somewhat recently, I got a new laptop computer. This computer includes an
SD reader... but I can't find specs for it. Does anyone know where I can
look for them? I wanted to find out what kinds of SD cards (i.e. up to what
size) I can use with it.

That aside, I've never really used SD cards before in a computer. Can
anyone tell me what they think might be the advantages and disadvantages of
using them are?
