How do I know if the bloke was hypnotized by an evil foe? How do I know
if the bloke is just having a heart attack?

I don't, not for absolutely certain.
But I have a high probability culprit and is something on which I can
take action. The people won't be able to take action on cia's secret
earthquake machine, nor over the drilling, but are able to take action
on global warming which is the most probable culprit. We can't wait till
history sorts it out, it will be too late and we'll be in the floor
bleeding (or we won't if the worst comes to happen). Same way as I can't
wait for this bloke to hit the shit out of me before defending myself.
Man, it's your family, your sons and daughters at risk here!
If you saw a big ugly latin with a gun in your yard. Would you wait till
you are sure it is a gun and you are sure of his intentions? Or would
you shoot him to protect your family? Same thing here! There is a slight
chance it won't be really bad, but are you willing to take this chance
on your family?

Bottom line. Will you put your children at risk on the chance that it
was underwater 1,000 years ago? Or are you a responsible father and
member of your community and willing to take action against this
probable risk?
