It is probably a recent update designed to protect your security with no thought to you. Microsoft believes you are stupid and can't handle managing your own shortcuts, much less your own computer. Or, the OS is so poorly designed that it can't seem to prevent bogus shortcuts from magically appearing on your desktop. Either way, your operating system isn't working for you. Of course, I'm kind of biased after using Ubuntu Linux for years. Cheers!
