Try changing the Shortcut property to "http://www.google.com/";

Right Click on desktop shortcut and select properties an place in
shortcut text box.
Short cuts to web sites usually say Url at the side of text box.

Cheers

Subject: [NF] XP system forgot how to handle an Internet Shortcut

I have an XP box that reports: "Windows cannot open this file:" " File:
www.google.com/" when I click on a desktop shortcut for Google.

It appears Windows has forgotten how to handle an internet shortcut. It
does handle other types of shortcuts without a problem. Can someone
tell me
how to run this down?

TIA - Joe Yoder
