Am I missing something?
Only that Microsoft software is a big waste of effort.
1) download TightVNC, install as windows service
2) make sure it added a windows firewall rule for port 5900, if not add it
yourself
3) download TightVNC viewer, run it from your client machine using
4) make VNC shortcuts for all the machines you want to support
Bam! Remote control that will work until the end of time, with no further
configuration needed, and not dependent on versions of Windows, and
client/server VNC
version mismatches don't seem to matter, either.
Except VNC runs at about 10% the speed of Remote Desktop. VNC
basically sends screenshots, RDP sends graphics primitives (draw a
box, render some text etc).
I have used RDP in the past over dialup and it was usable.
Not only that, but I have a whole lot of customers using RDP. Why can't
Windows8 work? I log into a major corporation using Citrix & they can't
get Windows8 working. I don't have enough information to say it's all
W8 systems or just some configuration.
