Before the bill was passed, there was much misinformation and fear disseminated by opponents of health care reform, including allegations that the bill would create no choice in what health benefits you receive, no chemo for older Medicare patients, illegal immigrants will get free health insurance, the government will set doctors' wages, and death panel would decide who live and who dies, etc, LOL. Many people today still believe the FUD, as the bill still has not gone into effect, and I think this is what Nancy Pelosi meant when she said people would understand the bill better when passed; because, at that time there would be irrefutable proof of the lies/FUD. The passage of the bill was a monumental task.
