I agree that it's a "no-brainer," Ed, but I've seen several companies 
that had zero compassion and foresight for such a policy.  I called them 
the "East Berlin School of Mgmt" types.  Old school.  Kinda like that 
d-bag manager you mentioned who wanted to get rid of the nerf guns and 
put more "order" in place there.  (btw--is that person still there?)
