You are perhaps right. The message id appears to be same for this
problematic email (i.e. for every attempt to deliver this email to
x...@icloud.com the message id is 2f18001d6e499$48eeff40$daccfdc0$@xxx).
There are 2 other emails that are getting constantly retried with success
and NDR (respectively) as well and the message id does not change from
attempt to attempt.

I would guess that this was the message id generated by the original email
client. 

What might be going wrong here?
