current winodws telnet-clients are unuseable i spent two years ago 3 hours to verify firewall-settings for mysql on a windows 2008 R2 host until i recognized that all would work from the begin if we only would have tried the normal workload on a unix-machine you get wonderful and clear results from "telnet host any-tcp-port" on windows you are typing in a black hole
