A bit more data on this issue:In a telnet session from the windows box, I notice that once the greeting is received, if I do nothing but send an immediate <crlf> I get a bad syntax response. If I type anything, including just a single character, followed by <crlf>, it seems to be ignored until a second <crlf> is added.
