You could use a local dns server which would serve another IP address
for this name. It is easy to do with unbound and its local_data.

Yes, use a local DNS cache that suppors local name overrides. "unbound"
would be a good choice.

Thanks to all that helped solving my problem. This is now working perfectly using unbound's "local-data" override. (got rid of bind9 caching server in the process)
