This is exactly what postscreen - which is part of postfix - and fail2ban were developed to handle.

I get a lot of "connection dropped" from postscreen, without doing anything too clever.

Then I use the spamhaus settings for smtpd_recipient_restrictions, if you create free account you get a lot of information on how to autoblock things.

And fail2ban cleans up most of the rest.

Some days I get 2 or 3 messages through, most days I get none, and once in a while there's a bit of a flood when new open relay pops up.

You don't need a new tool, the ones available to you are perfectly adequate.

And, apart from fail2ban, very well documented.
