Greetings,

I have a neighbour who is not computer literate and does only Google an email.
(She's the one I've mentioned to you, Tony).
A few years ago she 'virussed' or 'trojanned' and is now a bit paranoid.
Someone she knew at the time switched he to Linux because it's safe and she got
on OK with it until it stopped updating.

I've been and looked and she has Ubuntu with the message "Version 8.04 is now
available".

Hmmm.

She had also, in the meantime, switched away from and then back to BT for her
ISP.

I've got her up and running again on her existing Ubuntu but there are a couple
of issues:-

1. Is it safe to leave her on what is presumably 7.10?
    It doesn't seem to want to upgrade to 8.04, 8.10, 9.04 . . . . and so on -
and would take days.

2. Evolution email sends but will not receive.
I've checked and rechecked all the settings and they all seem correct. This
is a familiar problem to me. I even had it on my iMac. But I can't get hers to
work no matter how much I fiddle.

Any advice would be great.

Thanks,

Brian
