Hi Shane, Welcome to PLUG, I myself have been a member for a couple of years and I too knew very little upon joining Peterborough Linux User Group. You will learn a lot even just by keeping an eye on the lists, the questions people ask and the responses they get.
Sadly I have not been able to attend the meetings for a good while due to a hectic lifestyle and thanks to that I now have secured a job as a full time Linux Administrator in London, so now I think it will be unlikely I'll be attending any time soon. I will of course still be hanging out on the PLUG mailing list and on forums, here are a few that I know of that are worth registering with to get you started: http://ubuntuforums.org/ http://www.linuxquestions.org/ http://linuxforums.org/ http://forums.fedoraforum.org/index.php Good luck with your Linux endeavours and if you haven't tried any distrubution (distro) yet, try ubuntu, or fedora. Personally I prefer Fedora, because it is part of the same family as CentOS and the well known Red Hat Linux circle. I started out with ubuntu but because I now work with Linux in a commercial setting, I try to use something more familiar and closer to an industry standard Linux OS (not many places use Debian based distro's like Ubuntu, or Linux Mint (or even Debian itself). You also might want to get a subscription to a Linux Magazine, and or listen to the TuxRadar podcast. You can learn a lot just by listening to or reading about what's going on in Linux world. http://tuxradar.com/ or look for tuxradar in iTunes (or whatever your preferred podcast software is - iTunes doesn't work in Linux). http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/10things/10-linux-replacements-for-itunes/450 I know that's a lot to get you started but always feel free to ask any question no matter how trivial, we are here to help each other when we can, and its nice to welcome a fellow colleague into the Linux community. By the way, does anyone on the list know where / if there is a LUG in Hayes / Uxbridge UB3 or nearby? Kind Regards Richard.
