The problem I have with that is Tom (& Pat) Leeson and Kennan Ward are almost as well known as Tom Mangelsen. Why would they copy one of his images and try to pass it off as their own?

Looking at the information Bob found about the 2002 Exhibition *Endangered Treasures: Our Arctic National Wildlife Refuge*, I note both Keenan Ward & Tom Mangelsen are listed as participating photographers. Maybe they did both take the same photo.

Although that doesn't explain why the image would have been flipped horizontally for the exhibition.

But please look at the Leeson's web site again:

Note not just the image in question, but the two images on either side of it.

The three images were obviously shot at the same time & location and suggest a sequence of at least 15 images based on the image numbering:

MA660, *, MA658, **************, MA643

I sent International Arts & Artists an email asking if there is a catalog for that exhibition.

I have been following your detective story with interest. Seeing the three
images together really helps! No way two or three photographers can be that
close together to be able to take such similar shots. Even if all had tripods
snugged up together using remotes to fire the shutters. So one is the master,
the others are copies. Given that the other two are tighter crops than the
Manglesen version, then it seems clear to me that the others are copies.
Possibly cropped so as to exclude identifying marks (signature, copyright...)
present on the original(s) being copied from.

I really feel the other two photographers were given permission to market these
, or in the csae of Ward maybe a simple misattribution on the web, or
they are simply ripping off Mangelsens work. Is it possible they all three
were at that spot at the same time??? Something just aint right.
