I have the Pentax WG-III which I carry as a backup, for snorkeling, and for
taking “position record” shots. (I.e., I try to remember to take a quick shot
on my way e.g. into a small Italian village. Later when I am looking at shots
taken with DSLR bodies with no GPS, I can use the WG-III GPS imprint and the
time hack to figure out which village it was.)

My current preferred travel-light kit is K-3, DA 21/3.2, and DA* 50-135/2.8
(with the HD DA 1.4x AW converter usually attached). To this basic set I’ll add
the WG-III for backup, GPS, and severe conditions. And, space permitting, the
DA 35/2.8 Ltd Macro.

I really like the combination of the 50-135 + 1.4x converter. I have not used
the newer 18-135, but I would imagine that it would not perform as well with
the converter, and so with the 18-135 you might still want another longer lens
in your kit.

Enjoy your trip! Italy is a special place.
