this summarizes a WSJ article (which i can't read without subscribing) about what seems to me a very smart move by Samsung:

<http://www.theverge.com/2012/5/10/3011347/samsung-refocus-mirrorless-cameras-phasing-out-compacts>

i would like to see the path through the jungle of cameras to come; some will say it's a beautiful process: innovation plus free market; to me it seems more like chaos theory

... marketing schmaltz surely will blur consumers' vision, but to me the practicalities are:

* critical mass and ecosystem of lenses
* sensors
* advances in electronic viewfinders
* making the camera part of an "open" computing system

i can't say who has the best combination of those factors today
