the autofocus on a good P&S camera works perfectly well if you know how to control its focus points and modes. the few dozen shots i have had not focused when i had the right control point or focus mode, it was because i was in a hurry and pressed the shutter release too soon. i could disable that, but i choose not to. if the digital camera doesn't have manual control of focus points and modes, it's not for people who care. i have had to use manual focus only a couple of times ever, and the times that worked, i locked focus and moved the camera. most cameras with manual focus mode have very coarse steps. my camera has 256 and that isn't adequate unless you move the camera.

I'm going to stick to SLR's.
