A point and shoot digital uses the image sensor for it's focusing, my
*istD (Currently up to 28 test photos to see how it all works) uses a
highly accurate sensor which is not accessible when it's actually
taking the picture.  So you would have to build a secondary focusing
mechanism to focus during video.

Besides I hate the way people hold digital point and shoots a foot and
a half away from them to from and take pictures, I think it looks
rediculous!

Off to take a whole lot more pictures using different white balances. 
Tomorrow I have Bianca willing to model for me to test out the finer
points of the *ist D.
