Lon, by the way, I meant no offense by my previous email (not sure how touchy you are, so I thought I'd clear the air ahead of time). I just meant to say that, now that I take a better listen at your current situation, there are tons of options that fall in between a 500mm Mirror lens with IS0 800 film, and a 400mm f2.8 with matching TC's.
Just make sure you've at least considered 'em. And if you decide to skip all the in between steps, that's fine by me. Heck, I damn near did the same (in fact, my jump was even larger). But it just seems best if it's a calculated move.
