If it extends beyond the exposed frames,my quess is the lab. I also have this problem 
from
the lab
i use(1 hour)anf had one of my best film horse rolls ruined with a scratch right were
everyones
head is.The two presentation shots were the only ones not this way so i can sell those

I have taken negs in to be reprinted and were there was no scratch,there is one now and
sale is 
off.D'ohSeveral negs of prints i sent to Hallmark Cards in my portfolio for calanders 
are
now 
scratched.Hopefully thay wont pick those:)
OTOH i have had problems at the "pro"lab i take my B&W to.Some scratches and lots of 
water

marks ,dust ets,so i think its a univeral problem.
