While I can agree with the rest, I must say that firstly, all colour neg
films above 800 ISO stink, IMHO, and secondly that I often find myself
in situations where I'm pushing Delta 3200 to 12,800 with f2.8 lenses
wide open. I very much lust after that 50mm f1.2, and absolute
sharpness is not really an issue for me, since this stuff is shot either
hand-held or on a monopod at 1/30 and 1/15. That extra half-stop would
let me shoot some colour! :)
BTW, Aaron's math is thus: one stop of the 12,800 is for the tungsten
light, so we're at 6400 for colour, then from f2.8 open up two and a
half stops to f1.2 which is around ISO 1200, or 800 ISO film pushed half
a stop or just plain half a stop under exposed. Yes, a 50mm f1.4 would
get me to just one stop under, but in low-low light situations,
"pushing" colour neg a stop is pretty worthless, in my experience, since
all of that black detail goes away. And I want the extra stop and I'm
not so picky about the sharpness, so leave me alone!! :)
