High Samuel,
Aren't you a little mixed up there?
You said to run a line in cable from the headphone jack of the sound card to
the headphone jack of the tape player.
That trick wont work.
Because you are trying to run 2 outputs in to each other.
If the voltage was much higher then 250mv which comes out of both a walk man
and your sound card, you will end up frying your tape player and your sound
card all at the same time.
The headphone jack if anything, should be connected to the line in jack of
the sound card.
This way, Gold Wave or any audio editor will make the recording without any
problems.
I'm not to keen on making recordings on a pc yet, but I did learn that the
hard way when I was a kid.
Two outputs can't be connected together.
  John.
