I knew one guy that put his whole music collection on Beta, as the fidelity was superb at the time and was the best system going, Unfortunately the public bought into VHS, and the beta system never really caught on. We have made tremendous strides with audio over the past 20 years or so. No more cracking and popping, and the wow and flutter of audio tape is virtually a thing of the past. With good audio equipment it is possible to produce broadcast quality recording from a home environment using many of the popular software programs now on the market. Many radio stations are now using off the shelf CD players in their studios, and when they breakdown they simply throw them away. .
