This is the Syracuse Area Rare Bird Alert for the week of December 06, 2021 Highlights: ----------- RED-NECKED GREBE TUNDRA SWAN CACKLING GOOSE AMERICAN WIGEON RUDDY DUCK ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK MERLIN DUNLIN GREATER YELLOWLEGS ICELAND GULL LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL SNOWY OWL SHORT-EARED OWL NORTHERN SHRIKE MARSH WREN YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER EASTERN TOWHEE PINE SISKIN EVENING GROSBEAK Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge (MNWR) and Montezuma Wetlands Complex (MWC) ------------ 12/6: A late MARSH WREN was seen at the Morgan Road Marshes in the northern complex. 12/10: A ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK was spotted at the Visitor’s Center. 12/12: 160 SANDHILL CRANES and a ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK were seen from VanSyne Spoor Road. 12/13: A YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER was seen at the Mays Point Dam. 140 SANDHILL CRANES were seen in Knox-Marsellus Road. Onondaga County ------------ 12/7: A CACKLING GOOSE was seen if a group of Canadas on the Oswego river from Fadison River Park (Private) norht of Rt. 31. 2 late AMERICAN WIGEONS were seen at Beaver lake west of Baldwinsville. 12/11: An EASTERN TOWHEE, possible overwintering, was seen at Beaver Lake Nature Center. A SNOWY OWL was seen in the NY State Fair Parking Lot. 12/13: A MERLIN was seen at Oakwood Cemetery in Syracuse. Oswego County ------------ 12/7: A CACKLING GOOSE was seen with Canadas from Baum Road in Hastings. A late DUNLIN and GREATER YELLOWLEGS were seen at the Sandy Pond Outlet on Lake Ontario. A RUDDY DUCK was seen on Lake Neatahwanta in Fulton. 12/10: A YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER was seen at the Rice Creek Field Station in Oswego. 12/11: A RED-NECKED GREBE was seen from the Mexico Bay Boat Launch area on Lake Ontario. Madison County ------------ 12/10: A LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was seen at the Madison County Landfill south of Canastota. 12/11: An ICELAND GULL was seen at the Madison County Landfill. A NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen on Ditchbank Road north of Chittenango. 12/12: A MERLIN was seen at the Oneida Community Golf Club.. 24 AMERICAN WIGEON and 11 RUDDY DUCKS were seen at Woodman Pond north of Hamilton. Oneida County ------------ 12/10: 2 PINE SISKINS were seen in Waterville. An ICELAND GULL was seen at Sylvan Beach on Oneida Lake. 12/13: 12 TUNDRA SWANS were seen from North Bay on Oneida Lake.
