This is the Syracuse Area Rare Bird Alert for the week of November 08, 2021 Highlights: ----------- RED-THROATED LOON CATTLE EGRET BRANT ROSS’S GOOSE BLACK SCOTER WHITE-WINGED SCOTER SANDHILL CRANE COMMON GALLINULE FISH CROW MARSH WREN VESPER SPARROW CHIPPING SPARROW SNOW BUNTING RED CROSSBILL Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge (MNWR) and Montezuma Wetlands Complex (MWC) ------------ 11/12: A ROSS’S GOOSE was seen with 2 Snow Geese at the Visitor’s Center. 11/13: A late MARSH WREN was seen on the Wildlife Drive. A late SAVANNAH SPARROW was seen at the Visitor’s Center. A late VESPER SPARROW was seen at East road. 11/14: 60 SANDHILL CRANES were counted from East Road. Onondaga County ------------ 11/12: A CATTLE EGRET was seen from the end of the Creekwalk at the south end of Onondaga Lake. 11/13: A COMMON GALLINULE was seen from the West Shore Trail of Onondaga Lake. 11/14: A BRANT was seen at the Inner Harbor on Onondaga Creek south of Bear Street in Syracuse. Oswego County ------------ 11/11: 20 SANDERLINGS, 14 DUNLIN and a RED-THROATED LOON were seen at the Outlet of Sandy Pond on Lake Ontario. 11/14: BLACK and WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS and 3 RED-THROATED LOONS were seen from the bluff at derby Hill on Lake Ontario. BLACK and WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS were seen from Mexico Point on lake Ontario. Madison County ----------- 11/15: 30 SNOW BUNTINGS were seen on Ditchbank Road north of Canastota. Oneida County ------------ 11/9: A FISH CROW was heard at Proctor Park in Utica. 11/10: A RED-THROATED LOON was seen at Delta Lake north of Rome. 11/12: BLACK and WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS were see on Oneida Lake from Blossvale.
