To sum up, my concern with current MLO behavior is:

   - Locking the defaults protects the workspace completely, including it's
   filters (that's good).
   - Unlocking the defaults enables me to change filters however I cannot
return to the defined defaults as MLO doesn't recognize changing filter as
   a modification of the default.
   - As far as I don't change a view for a workspace I cannot set another
default neither - even if I changed the view dramatically using filters,
the MLO doesn't recognize it as anything that can be a new default and the
"set default for a tab" option is greyed out.
   - If by accident I break my tab setup and want to undo the changes the
only way is to reset the view - but that wipes all the additional filters
and I have to setup the tab from scratch.

In my opinion the help file describes the behavior as it should be coded as
it is very simple and logical approach:

   1. I start with the views that are defined by their filters.
   2. Then I create additional workspaces by finetuning the views (with,
for example, additional parent filters) and the tabs remember the
additional settings I defined - including filters.
   3. If I am content with a tab I defined I can save it's default
configuration so when I am lost with changes I can always return to the
   default as I defined it.

That way tab defaults serve important and useful role - I can look at
different aspects of my outline using one set of views with additional
settings/filters remembered by tabs/workspaces and my configuration is, in
a way, protected because I saved the defaults. If a defaults for a tab
don't include the view's filter then every time I change anything - like
number of days to show completed tasks or the contexts included (just to
check something) - I have to undo the changes manually which is boring and
troublesome. And resetting the view wipes the filters (for example the
parent filter) completely, so I have to setup the tab from scratch.

To put it in another way, for me:

   - the whole strength of tabs is that I can define additional filters for
already defined views and the tab remembers that filter - so when I want to
see only my work tasks I don't have to set parent filter for a view again
   and again,
   - the whole strength of tab defaults would be that reverting to the
default I can see the tab as I defined it - including the filters.
