Hello, all

thanks for all the feedback. I'm glad to have raised so much interest.
I also realize that I was a bit confusing in my original request: let
me rephrase it taking your replies into account

Computer (A) is my (yet to be found) web host. It will run one of
linux/*bsd/solaris. I will have a shell account on it, with mutt,
procmail, etc.... and ssh and POP3 access.

>From home (computer (B) everything will be fine: Linux
box with root password, so I'll just use mutt remotely via ssh, or,
much more frequently, just download everything via POP3/ssh, shut down
the phone, read email, reply, dial up again (dial-up only here,
sorry...)

But what from computer (C) which may be any of

1) Dad's Window 98 PC
2) Generic Internet kiosk in airport/hotel
3) My own PC when, like tonight, my ISP (sucking as most do here in
Italy) POP3 server dies, and I'm just left with www access? Look
at this message headers...: yes, I'll change IPS some day, but one
     thing at a time:...)
4) Yes, even my office computer (once in a while during lunch break
     of course!)

In all cases, no root password or no ssh installed, or firewall ONLY
letting through http/https or no choice of browser, or all of the
above on computer (C).

So, what should I set up/ask for on computer (A) in order to

             - sit at (ANY) client with a web browser
             - get through the firewall (IF PRESENT) looking like web traffic
             - log in on (SERVER) for interactive shell processing
               (BE IT MUTT OR WHATEVER)

as somebody else kindly summarized (CAPITAL WORDS are mine)?

I had also thought of some single floppy distro, but it would work
only in case (1) above. Since my original question, I found
http://javassh.org, but I'm not sure yet if it would work or not.

Comments?

                TIA,
                        Marco Fioretti
