well, that's why I suggested you send the resulting
message to yourself again so it gets injected again.
but I suppose you need not only a changed *body* of
the message - but keep the header (mostly) as is?

workaround: "save" the message to a new folder.
edit that folder (basically just that message).  call
mutt on that folder again - and save the message back.

it maybe takes more steps - but it is a lot safer
than making mutt store a changed version of some
message into the same folder and deleting the orginal.
i would not want to be at the help desk where people *have*
to help users find their lost data due to that command..
