well i'm using Maildir, so that would be a bit difficult. here's a
better example though (from an earlier off list message).

[replying off list since you did; feel free to forward to anywhere
relevant]

well, the behavior seems inconsistent.

if i do:

 107 N L Mar 19 Jack Sasportas     (1.1K) OT Anti-Spam ?
 108 N L Mar 19 Ralf Hildebrandt   (1.4K) |->
 109 N L Mar 19 Marco d'Itri       (0.4K) |->
 110 N L Mar 19 Marco d'Itri       (0.3K) `*>
 111 N L Mar 19 George Pajari      (0.6K)   `->

and delete the parent, first child, and then sync, i get:

 107   L Mar 19 Marco d'Itri       (0.4K) Re: OT Anti-Spam ?
 108 N L Mar 19 Marco d'Itri       (0.3K) `*>
 109 N L Mar 19 George Pajari      (0.6K)   `->

if i re-enter the folder, i get the same thing.

same if i leave the parent, but delete two messages in the middle of a
thread; ie:

  89 N L Mar 19 Chris Evans        (0.6K) letting in mail from postmaster@ and abuse@
from blocked I
  90 N L Mar 19 Ralf Hildebrandt   (0.8K) `->
  91 N L Mar 19 Chris Evans        (1.1K)   `->
  92 N L Mar 19 Ralf Hildebrandt   (1.5K)     `->

  89 N L Mar 19 Chris Evans        (0.6K) letting in mail from postmaster@ and abuse@
from blocked I
  90   L Mar 19 Chris Evans        (1.1K) `->

so i can't figure out why the subject is sometimes there multiple times;
when i try to reproduce it, it seems to behave as i'd expect it would.
