I tried -d2 and -d4 along with -q from 100 down to 0 in increments of
10.  The "extraneous bytes" gets reduced from 13k down to 500 bytes at
-q -d2 but I can't get it to go to zero or solve the corrupted video
appearance.

As I replied to Bernhard, it's not VIA-based.  I made a mistake in the
model #.  It's truly Intel 845D.

Hey, looking at the trace I see a few avc and selinux calls.  I have
selinux ON on this machine (FC3 default) but only in WARN mode, so it
shouldn't affect anything, should it?
