It's great for cache/proxy servers. You don't say anything about how beefy your hardware is but I would want at least a 1GHz Duron or 1.2GHz Athlon with 512M of RAM for that many users. The amount of desired disk space depends on how high you want your byte hit ratio to be, but I wouldn't bother running one for that kind of user count with less than about, say, 20-25G to dedicate to /var/squid (of course, symlinking /var/squid/logs to /var/log/squid and reserving /var/squid itself for the cache). -- Shawn K.
